A GROUP of youngsters dubbed ‘good samaritans’ after returning a wallet stuffed with cash to man who lost it while praying have been described as ‘shining examples of what the youth of today should aspire to be like’.
David Price heaped praise on the group of six youngsters from Paulet High School, in Violet Way, Stapenhill, after he met them for the first time since making a public appeal for them to get in touch after their ‘act of kindness’.
The 54-year-old business consultant for charities said Jamie Pearsall, Charlie Winfield, Kasey Connelly, Leyton Gooding, Jack Costello and Lewis Stewart-Cooke deserved their ‘moment in the spotlight’ after finding his wallet in Brizlincote Valley and returning it to his home in Edmonton Place, in Winshill.
Mr Price said: “They really were a fantastic group of young lads and I am really glad that I got the chance to meet them.
“I told them how what they did made me feel and that they should be proud of themselves.
“I said that they were shining examples of what the youth of today should aspire to be like and I hope that others followed their suit in the future.
“When they returned my wallet the first time, my wife handed them £10 but I gave them a bit more cash each just to say thanks for their efforts.”
Paulet deputy head teacher Ian McArthur revealed that he was ‘not surprised’ to learn that the group were from the school.
He said: “It was so nice to see what this group of youngsters had done.
“I knew when I read the article in the Mail that the group had to be from this school.
“We like to think that their time here
at the school has helped them know
that what they did was the right thing to do.
“We are not just about maths, science and English but also about helping youngsters learning more about the bigger picture.
“The group are a great example to their fellow pupils and, with what they did, have shown the school and everyone associated with it in a good light.”
