As part of our partnership work with Queen’s Hospital this year, four students visited the cardio-rehab centre yesterday.  They were told about the unit’s function, learnt about the equipment used, spoke to patients and took part in an exercise class.

The unit supports patients with heart problems. The patients range from those recovering from heart attacks and heart operations to those who have heart defects or illness. The patients range in ages from teenage years through to older patients.

The unit gives focused exercise support for either 8 or 16 weeks, before tailoring an exercise regime for each patient to continue with. The patients we spoke to all found the unit to be an amazing place.  It has great supportive and professional staff who help them through a difficult and often scary period; helping them to return to work and continue their lives effectively.

The students also got to use one of the ‘hand bike’ machines we are raising money for through a range of ‘heart health’ fund raising events this year.
