Content:Â
Skills workshops: Through a range of workshop-based classes, students are taught new skills and develop skills from KS4 using prior learning and knowledge. The series of workshops will focus on developing techniques and materials and cover how to conduct successful and useful artist research, generate ideas and how to structure a project. Practical based workshops will include a mix of dry and wet materials, including drawing, painting and printmaking.Â
Component 1: Students work with increasing independence to develop their own body of work, drawing on skills developed in the first term. Students will start to generate ideas to develop a body of work based on their response to a personal issue, interest or concern, potentially developing ideas explored in the skills workshops. A supporting essay of 1000-3000 words will be written, explaining student’s critical understanding of their project.Â
Component 2: Students will work independently in response to a chosen starting point, carrying out investigations, developing ideas, realising intentions and making appropriate and relevant connections to critical and contextual material. A 15-hour non-exam assessment will be undertaken, resulting in a final piece of work developed throughout the component.Â

| Career opportunities (What can this qualification lead to)Â |
| Art equips students with many transferable skills that can help young people access a wide range of opportunities. Students could go on to study Art at university; from traditional Fine Art courses such as Graphic Design, Printmaking and Textiles to more specialised degree areas, such as Animation, Illustration and Fashion Design.Â
Employers often look for skills such as creativity, problem solving, teamwork, communication and decision making when interviewing candidates. Art forces students to approach tasks in innovative ways and see an idea through a creative process to a final idea, using these transferable skills to create independent thinkers. For suggestions on careers in the Arts, visit https://theartcareerproject.com/careers/ for inspiration |
