Aims of the course:Â
- Develop an understanding of the many causes of human thought and behaviourÂ
- Develop critical evaluative skill, judging the strength of evidence to support theoriesÂ
- Apply psychological knowledge to issues to improve society and individualsÂ
- Develop the mathematical skills needed to interpret and display data and calculate statisticsÂ
Content:Â
Research Methods: Learn how psychological research is carried out, the importance of controlled experiments, debate the accuracy and consistency of psychology results, learn and calculate the mathematical statistical calculations needed to infer if the results of a study are significant. Â
Core Studies: Learn key historical and contemporary research into a variety of topics (development of morality, memory, neuroplasticity) from a variety of perspectives (biological, behaviourist, cognitive) as well as a number of issues and debates within psychology. Â
Applied Psychology: Learn contemporary debates and research into mental health, child psychology and criminal psychology. What causes mental illness, how do we measure intelligence in children, how are juries biased by the ethnicity and appearance of witnesses and defendants etc.Â
