WHAT DO STUDENTS LEARN IN KEY STAGE 4? 

GCSE Spanish is a 3 year course at Paulet. By the time students opt for their GCSE subjects, they will already have studied part of the course. The GCSE course covers free time, technology, school life, global culture, travel, relationships, local life, the environment, future plans and social issues. As you can see, the topics dealt with in this course are wide-ranging and will enhance our students’ understanding of themselves and the world around them as well as providing them with a second language and a huge array of transferable skills. 

 

HOW WILL STUDENTS LEARN IN THIS COURSE? 

Students learn through a wide variety of activities including role-play, prompt cards, prepared and spontaneous conversation, translation, dictation, games and interactive tasks and writing for a variety of purposes. This is supplemented by home learning tasks that are typically vocabulary and grammar based to consolidate learning in lessons.

 

HOW ARE STUDENTS ASSESSED IN THIS COURSE? 

GCSE Spanish comprises four skill-based exams in speaking, listening, reading and writing. Each exam is equally weighted at 25%. The speaking element is examined in school with the class teacher and marked externally.

HOW IS IT GRADED? 

Grades available currently are 1-5 at foundation tier and 3-9 at higher tier. 

 

WHAT FURTHER EDUCATION AND/OR CAREERS CAN THIS QUALIFICATION LEAD TO? 

A GCSE language opens so many exciting doors for our students. Students can progress to A-Level Spanish which is offered at Paulet Sixth Form.
