WHAT DO STUDENTS LEARN IN BTEC FIRST AWARD IN SPORT IN KEY STAGE 4?
Students learn about the body and fitness for sport and exercise They also complete a practical sport unit, where they focus on 2 different sports. Students also plan, complete and evaluate a personal exercise programme (PEP) in a fitness area of their choice. Finally, students learn how to apply the principles of sports leadership in their own activity sessions that they will plan and lead.
HOW WILL STUDENTS LEARN IN THIS COURSE?
Students learn through a variety of activities such as practical lessons in sport and fitness, teacher led presentations, individual theory based tasks, group tasks, individual research tasks with use of ICT, quizzes, practical tasks such as linking components of fitness to sport and designing and leading mini sports sessions.
HOW ARE STUDENTS ASSESSED IN THIS COURSE?
This course is made up of 4 units and you can achieve a pass, merit or distinction in each.
- Unit 1: Fitness for Sport and Exercise (online exam- 25%)
Coursework based units:
- Unit 2: Practical performance in sport (25%)
- Unit 5: Applying the principles of personal training- PEP (25%)
- Unit 6: Leading sports activities (25%)
The online computer based exam is taken in the summer term of year 10. It can also be taken again from January onwards in year 11.
