We have a two pathways for Science at Key Stage 4 which provide for a range of abilities. Both pathways follow AQA specification. Pupils will begin studying during year 9 and continue through into year 11.
SEPARATE SCIENCES: BIOLOGY GCSE, CHEMISTRY GCSE AND PHYSICS GCSE.
Some pupils will be able to take an option to follow this route which enables them to gain three GCSE grades. The grades are not connected and are from 9 to 1.
For each GCSE students will sit 2 exams which are 1 hour 45 minutes long. These will be sat at the end of year 11. They will also have carried out a number of required practicals that will be assessed in the final exam papers.
COMBINED SCIENCE GCSE
This route will be taken by all other students and is worth 2 GCSE grades. These will be awarded as 2 grades 9-9, 9-8, 8-8 etc. Students will sit 6 exams which are 1 hour and 15 minutes long. They will also have carried out a number of required practicals that will be assessed in the final exam papers.
